A style of printing with the letters slanting to the right.
Ital, Italic.
While not commonly used as a name, italics as a typographic style was first developed by Renaissance printer Aldus Manutius in Venice around 1500.
Italics appear frequently in movies and TV shows as on-screen text for emphasis, foreign words, or thought sequences. Notable examples include 'Fight Club' (1999) where the narrator's internal monologue appears in italic text, and 'Stranger Than Fiction' (2006) where Emma Thompson's character's narration is shown in italic typeface on screen.
